After nine years, nine consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament and two setbacks in the national championship game, Washington University returned to the pinnacle of NCAA Division III women's basketball, capturing the program’s fifth national championship with a 65-59 victory over Hope College March 20 in Bloomington, Ill.

The Energy Awareness Committee will host a brown bag lunch viewing and discussion of Dean Richard Smith’s famous “last” lecture, “Population, Politics and the Environment.” In a video from his final lecture before taking on duties as dean of the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences in 2008, Smith, PhD, discusses what is in store for humans in the 21st century as human population increases and the Earth’s resources remain finite.

Ralph Rucci is among the most accomplished American fashion designers working today. His women’s-wear label, Chado Ralph Rucci, is known for thoroughly modern garments defined by sculptural silhouettes, innovative materials and precise construction. At 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 26, Rucci will discuss his life and work for the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts’ Public Lecture Series.

One-hundred and fourteen School of Medicine students learned March 18 where they will be doing their residencies. Thirty will be training at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine, and four will be training at St. Louis Children's Hospital.

The annual African Film Festival will be held Friday through Sunday, March 26-28, on the Danforth Campus, offering "one of its very strongest programs this year of unique and yet universally relevant films,” says Gaylyn Studlar, PhD, director of the Program in Film and Media Studies in Arts & Sciences and the David May Distinguished University Professor in the Humanities.
